A former eastern Iowa police officer was sentenced Thursday to six months in federal prison after admitting he violated the civil rights of a woman he had sex with while on duty. The 36 year old admitted that in 2004 he saw a woman at a bar he was checking while on duty, and that he knew her from similar bar checks in the past. About a half hour later, he stopped the woman’s vehicle but did not alert a dispatcher as required by Cedar Rapids Police Department policy. Sims then had sex with the woman at the park. The woman said she voluntarily had sex with Sims and believed that by doing what the officer wanted she would avoid criminal charges. Read more at the Chicago Tribune.
